Buying presents is challenging enough, but it’s even trickier when you’re buying for people don’t know terribly well. Nevertheless, this is something we’re all likely to find ourselves doing at some point – whether it’s as part of a secret Santa at work, or a wedding gift for a relative or a fairly distant acquaintance. It’s obviously important to put careful thought into it when you come to buy a gift for a person you don’t really know all that well, but obviously you’re likely to be hampered by the fact that you don’t know much about them or their personal tastes. You could always ask someone else who’s closer to the recipient about what they might like, but a lot of the time you won’t even have that option.
However, there are still a number of options open to you, so it’s worth thinking carefully about what you’re going to buy the individual in question. As an article from Yahoo points out, there are some trustworthy gifts which can usually be relied on to make a reasonably good impression. However, you should be careful to avoid just picking a standard gift without really giving it any proper consideration. After all, you’ve probably had lame birthday or Christmas presents yourself in the past, which you’ve simply put to one side or just thrown straight in the bin. Even if you don’t know the recipient particularly well, it would be a waste of money to buy a gift that simply doesn’t get used – so it is worth making the effort.
An article from Verticalwerks.com observes that buying gifts for workplace colleagues can be particularly problematic, because even those of us who’ve worked together for years often find that we don’t really know one another particularly well. You can always opt to play it safe and opt for gift cards. Of course, this might seem a little impersonal to the recipient but it does at least allow them to go out and then choose an item which is genuinely likely to be of use to them. It might be a good idea to ensure that you choose a gift card for an outlet which the recipient uses regularly. If you see the person with a shopping back from a particular shop, then perhaps it would be worth buying them a voucher or gift card for use at that same shop.
Another option is to buy a standard gift such as a photo frame or a clock, but to personalise it by adding the recipient’s name. This shows some consideration and is more likely to make a positive impression on the person who receives the present. Of course, there are failsafe gifts such as perfumes and aftershave. It might seem like an obvious choice, but a decent fragrance is sure to come in handy for nights out and other big occasions. With Joop Homme available at the Fragrance Shop, there are all sorts of great fragrances out there for you to choose from. You can find out more simply by searching online.
