Every woman owns a favourite dress. You know the one I’m talking about – it’s the dress that makes you look and feel like a million dollars; the dress that hides your lumps and bumps, and makes you look slim and curvaceous at the same time; the dress that shows off all your best body parts while flattering your most hated ones. It’s also the same dress that you wear every single time you go to an evening event. But it’s not necessarily time to change the dress. Instead, I’m proposing a way to prolong the life of your dress, and make it even more wearable (if that’s possible). Here are the different ways in which you can style your favourite dress.
Pile on the accessories
You’ll know as well as I do that a dress can be transformed from good to amazing with the help of a few well-chosen accessories. So if you’re planning a night out on the town in your favourite dress, simply add a pair of your highest heels (peep toes look great for the upcoming summer), a brightly coloured clutch bag, and a belt to cinch you in at the waist, and a pair of large hooped earrings to instantly up the glamour factor.
Dress for a rainy day
You know the feeling – it’s raining outside and the sky is grey and overcast. The last thing you feel like doing is donning your favourite dress, and you’d rather stay in your pyjamas and crawl back into bed. But you can still wear your favourite dress even in the heaviest of rainfall. Invest in an on-trend mac; water proof it’ll protect your dress and your hair from the effects of the rain. Slip your feet into a pair of wedge heels – leg lengthening, they’ll also withstand a downpour. Add several chunky bracelets around your wrists to finish off the look with style.
Make it look chic
You’re going out on a dinner date and you want to look the part. It’s only natural that your favourite dress instantly springs to mind for your outfit. But to make it look truly fabulous, layer over a fitted blazer (choose one in a contrasting colour to your dress. White looks great for the summer months) and wear a narrow rope belt around your blazer to help define your tiny waist and give your look more shape. Choose a pair of metallic finish wedges to give you instant points in the style stakes, endlessly long legs, and no sore feet afterwards. It’s a win-win combination.
Inject some attitude
If you want to show off the edgy side of your personality, layer a rock t shirt over your favourite dress and add a statement spiked necklace. Keep the look feminine with a pair of heeled shoe boots and a sultry smoky eyed make-up. Adding a belt will show your natural shape and reduce the volume created by an oversize t shirt.
Dress for your shape
It’s your favourite dress for a very good reason – it flatters your figure. Once you’ve determined the right cut and shape for your body shape, it is essential that you don’t make the error of wearing poorly chosen accessories as this could seriously damage the credibility of your dress. So if you’re an hourglass shape, try to highlight your tiny waist with a belt or a cropped jacket. Petite frames should be wary of donning longer jackets that shorten the leg and end up drowning your small frame. Slim figures can add curves with ruffles and embellishment detail.
