Over the last decade or so, summer festivals have really taken off in a big way. Sure, events like Glastonbury have been going on since 1970 but in the last few years there has been a real surge in the number of live music events taking place around the UK, from major gigs to small, family festivals.

Getting the festival look

Anyone who has been to a festival before will know all too well how difficult it can be packing for a few days away in a tent. You usually have to carry everything you take with you over quite a distance which means taking your whole wardrobe is definitely out of the question!  But that doesn’t mean a pair of shorts and a single t-shirt have to last you the whole event. Glamorous fashion choices like maxi dresses and skater dresses are perfect festival wear. After all, there’s no rule that says you have to look scruffy just because you’re spending a few nights camping!

Flower power is in!

The 60s may have been a long time ago now but the flower power effect is still being felt in 2013. Floral patterns are in in a big way this year and there’s plenty of choice out there when it comes to dresses, skirts and tops. After a late spring there’s no denying that things have finally come into bloom and there are floral prints to be found everywhere. Something like a neon floral peplum playsuit can be great at a festival if you’re looking for a relaxed and fun outfit, while a floral print belted dress is perfect if you’re looking to carry off that bright and breezy festival look.

Stars say “yes please”

It seems film and music stars can’t get enough of this hot trend either and while floral prints have been around for quite a while now, there’s no sign of celebrities getting tired of the look. Katie Perry appeared on the cover of Vogue in July wearing a beautiful, demure floral dress, and Pippa Middleton paid a visit to the Coronation Festival looking absolutely stunning in a flowing blue and white floral dress. So if you do decide to pack in some floral options for your festival trip then rest assured you’ll be in good company and definitely on trend!

Don’t forget your footwear

It’s easy to get carried away thinking about summer frocks and what you’ll put on if the evenings turn a bit chilly in front of the main stage. The important thing is not to forget about your footwear. Remember that even if there isn’t any rain during the event, when thousands upon thousands of people are trampling over fields then they have a habit of getting muddy. Wellies are the best option most of the time (if it’s OK for Kate Moss…) and there are some superb styles out there. You might want to consider some coral glow in the dark wellies if you’re keen to go fashionable and practical at the same time. Alternatively, check out the Redfoot fold-away wellies that can be easily stored in your bag!
